Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book Hellblazer, Constantine chronicles the exploits of supernatural detective/exorcist John Constantine. Set in modern day Los Angeles, we meet the otherworldly side of the City of Angels. There is a war waged between Heaven and Hell, with no direct contact from either side. Those who influence? Halfbreeds. Part angel, part demon, they are the creatures who live side-by-side humanity and are responsible as guardians and tempters of mankind. They call it the Balance. But when a halfbreed crosses the line between influence and possession? That's when Constantine comes in, and "deports their sorry ass straight back to Hell".

Following my Balance violation, the forces of Heaven and Hell have become paranoid. They’ve constructed two laughable Councils…

The Resurrection Crusaders represent Heaven. They are a group of angelic halfbreeds and avatars, who ensure their fellows follow the Balance. Being so influential, they’ve even attracted the attention of paranormal humans (you know mages, psychics, etc), and they’ve eagerly joined forces.

Quite naturally, the d**nation Army represent Hell. They’re a band of demonic halfbreeds and avatars, who ensure their associates follow the Balance. Their inspiration rivals the Resurrection Crusaders, and they’ve lured paranormal humans too.

But the Councils’ respective creators (God and my dad Satan) don’t realise that these groups are corrupted! The hypocritical fools rival my own conniving and deceit. They’re always plotting to fight their hated opposites, jeopardise the lives of humans (excellent!) and tilt those proverbial scales.

Papa Midnite’s retorted. The witch doctor’s formed his own group. Switzerland Neutral. These halfbreeds, avatars and supernatural humans are the only moral individuals truly conserving the cosmos’s Balance. PAH! How very boring!

I’m not allowing these groupings! I’ve thus created my own team. The Balance Breakers. We deliberately smash the cosmos’s rules. Though the accursed Councils always attempt to stop our merry-making.

Of course… There are some people who abhor these categories. The unaligned. Unallied. My favourite victims!
