Is there some sort of plot? If so, what is it? – It was a dark and stormy night. Seems like every story starts out like that complete with a happy ending. However this one has a different ending then happily ever after.
I feel cold. The last words of Captain Hector Barbossa before he collapsed surrounded by a decades worth of gold and silver pillaged and plundered from unsuspecting ships by the former d**ned crew of the Black Pearl. The curse lifted with the blood of Jack Sparrow and William Turner, their troubled times were finally over. The tide was rolling in as they left Isla de Muerte, frothy waves lapping at the boots of the fallen Barbossa. A pirate doesn’t die of old age, his neck is stretched, a knife to the back or a bullet to the heart. A lifetime of adventure taken in a single act of violence.
Barbossa’s life had just begun again only to be cruelly snatched by the single bullet of a pistol by the hands of his former Captain. His spirit did not got peacefully despite the content look he left with his body. Purgatory is not the Heaven and Hell one knows, there are no happy strumming angels or boiling pits of lava. The afterlife is heartless for all, spending an eternity drifting. Haiti beliefs are drawn from the world is watched over by one God where each person has a spirit that guides their soul’s path. Barbossa took the path of a Petwo; a combative and restless essence that refused to remain in purgatory. Hell itself couldn’t contain him.
Tia Dalma a Vodou priestess, a witch doctor to some had been listening to the changes in the wind, a disruption in the flow of life. The afterlife was brewing and agitated spirits spoke through the bones, whispering secrets to unasked questions. Bacalou a vile lou represented by the very flag of skull and crossbones pirates flew was stirring riffled by the presence of Barbossa. To keep the peace between the living and the dead, Tia took drastic measures. Barbossa’s body had been claimed by the rising tide, taking it out to the depths of the sea. Lead by the pull of promises, it drifted for days no manner of sea life dared to swim close until a Blue whale swallowed the body whole in its feeding upon krill. And it seemed that was the end of the dreaded Pirate.
The reign of the Black Pearl was known throughout the Seven Seas, tales of the ship with black sails spread from East to the West and caught the interest of Edward Teach known as Blackbeard, the king of pirates and Captain of the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Notorious for his ruthlessness and vile manner even with his own trusted men he terrorized the Caribbean for years. No military had been able to lay hands on old Blackbeard, death was indisputably a mere word and held no power of the renowned pirate. Like a ghost of nightmares, he haunted ports and open seas. He cared for no man, woman or child and kept strictly to the Pirate code. Whenever in need of crew, he press ganged those he needed, slaughtering those that stood against him. Blackbeard had a title to uphold and no washed up whelp was going to take it away from him.
And so he became enthralled in the myth of the Trident of Neptune. It is said to hold the power of the oceans, the very God that it was bestowed upon could cause chaotic springs, earthquakes, drowning and shipwrecks. When pleased, create new islands and offered calm seas for sailors. Made of pure gold, legend says it is encrusted with precious stones and gems in perfect flawlessness. A beauty to behold, it’s worth was far more then a league of ships filled with doubloons. Even the fear of Davy Jones could not withstand the force of the Gods. Any mortal man that possessed the Trident would be a God of the Sea.
Blackbeard wasn’t the only pirate to have heard of the Trident. For decades, men have searched for the fabled article returning with nothing but stories. Some say it’s hidden in the middle of the ocean, it only appears once ever millennia, other tales claim there’s a map tattooed on the royal bum of the Queen of England herself. The only solid sign there seems to be of this myth is a formation of rocks that reside on a well traversed Island that many Pirates pass. A formation that seems familiar to the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow. Driven by this first step, the crew of the Black Pearl has stopped in Tortuga to gather supplies and extra men before they dive off in the search of treasure.
With Port Royal a hop and a skip away, the Flying Dutchman has sought souls to fill her hold sailing along the outskirts of Royal. Bootstrap Bill, lost to Davy Jones’ locker stole away to seek out his son for forgiveness and one last farewell. In reply Will’s world with turned upside down, blaming himself despite being a child at the time of his father’s demise. He knew he wouldn’t allow his father to live his years in slavery and set sail with Elizabeth at his side in search of his father, finding themselves in the wickedness of Tortuga.
Beyond the outer edges of the sea, a massive storm brewed drawing inland with the force of Hurricane masses. It laid waste to many small islands and the towns that dotted the coast along the shores of the Caribbean. The force of the gale unearthed and buried many lives and in anger washed up hundreds of sea creatures leaving their rotting corpses along the sandy beaches in it’s wake. The tragic scenery left an impact upon the lands. An eerie mood settled upon the home of Tia when a large blue whale washed ashore. Drawing to the surreal happening, the priestess knew what lay within the decaying beast.
Everything has a purpose in life, events do not happen for nothing. The tide, the whale and the storm all worked together to bring Barbossa’s body to the witch for one purpose. Choosing between the lesser of two evils, Hectors soul was given a second chance at life. Living, he could do no harm to the spirit world and left the first and only thing on Barbossa’s mind, what became of his ship.
