Are auditions of some sort required? - No, but your character must sign in.
Is there some sort of plot? If so, what is it? - Free shelter. Free food. And all they need is your name and age. What could possibly go wrong?
RP era and type (school, historic, etc.) - Modern times (2008). I guess it could be considered a mystery.
