Are auditions of some sort required? - You must fill out a bio- and wait to be accepted by one of the admins.
Is there some sort of plot? If so, what is it? -
RP era and type- Current, Orphanage.
Other -“ The Wolverhampton Receiving Home was established almost a hundred years ago by a Madame Helen Brash. Through the years it has been changed so much that it’s founder would not have been able to recognise it.
Buildings have been demolished, rebuilt, renovated, moved or just plain destroyed. The once fine establishment is now rather run-down, with the paint peeling and the entire place a mucky grey colour. Some windows are broken or boarded up.
If you were to stand outside the place, you would see the high stone walls topped with curled barbed wire, and the tarnished golden plaque sunk into the stone. This proclaims is ‘Madame Helen’s Reform Orphanage,’ and quotes the establishment. This plaque is covered by a wooden sign that say it is the ‘Wolverhampton Receiving Home,’ and quotes the names of the three matrons.
The goal of this orphanage is to be adopted as quickly as possible. However, to even be put up for adoption, you must be good; aka, please the matrons and keep out of trouble.
This involves keeping the schedule, fearing god and doing all your chores and requesting more work. Your uniform [grey blazer, no tie, black shoes, grey pin-stripe pants] must be ironed and spotless and your bed space tidy and demure.
You must be at your lessons on time and wake up at six to be in time for breakfast. On Sundays you must troop down to the church with everyone else to pray for your salvation. The bible in the top drawer in your room must be kept in the best condition.
Your room is small; about 2x2m, with a small bed, a wardrobe and a set of draws. Your room will be in one of two separate blocks according to your ages [5-12, 13-18].
This might seem easy, but there are strict under-rules, hidden currents and large amounts of bullies and tyrants. The three matrons aren’t the most lenient of wardens, and they won’t hesitate to punish trouble-makers.
The basements under the offices are called ‘slammer cells’ by the students; dark, airless holes like solitary confinement in those old prison movies. Students often call their room a ‘coop’ and get locked in if caught doing so.
The grounds are messy but of use to people.
Some select orphans get higher status; almost like Head Boy/girl or prefect status [marked by red badges]. Older children are expected to help look after younger children and failing to do so can land you in the slammer for a week or more.
So, yeah, this place is great.
