Summer is dwindling down into the end of its long and glorious reign. Full of sleeping in late, wasting your educated little brain on watching reality television and staring at the computer screen for hours on end. You tumble from your bed in pajamas, it’s around noon. Before you even leave your room, a letter is shoved into your hands. Groggily, your fingers turn it over in your hand, it had already been opened. (Thus, the huge smile on your parents’ face). Reaching into the envelope, the growling stomach ties knots, mind half realizing what the letter might be about. Taking the piece of paper, the ink reads against white, white paper:
Dear parents and student,
You have been accepted into Armington Boarding School. We are excited to have this student attending. You’re expected to arrive to school on August 30th, at 7:00 A.M., where you’ll be checked in, given a dormitory and where your schedule will be sorted out with staff. Congratulations on your recognition; please get in contact with our staff as soon as possible to let us know that you will be attending. Let’s make our first year as memorable as possible.
Yours Truly,
Charles Armington- founder.
The beating of your heart has increased as the paper shakes between your fingers. Armington Boarding School? The place just opened, and already- people were talking. Academically, it’s said to be top-notch, though- the social rate of the place, you don’t know anything about. Leaving behind your friends to head off to some boarding school? Your town, your dog, Freido- leaving everything behind to go to this unknown place. Then again, it’s what your grandpa always said- growing up is about change. You can either take the changes, or you can go down, kicking and screaming. Well, grandpa was usually right about stuff.
Your parents, not even letting you change, hurry you to pack your things, heck- it was two days before you had to leave, and they were more excited than you were about going to the place. Some new people, a new place, a lot of rumors about the place and you come out with a nervous anticipation of how this school year will be like. After shoving in the new clothes that mom and pops bought you as a going away present, (and for new school clothes), you throw your bags next to the door, your mom fussing about you not packing enough underwear.
TWO DAYS LATER.
You wake up. Again.
This time, your parents are hunched over your bed, shaking you awake. Check the clock. 5:00 A.M. No, I’m not kidding you- they’re really waking you up at that hour. You struggle in and out of sleep before falling to the ground, and managing to pull on some clothes. With a bit of fatigue, you manage to put your bags in the car and rub the sleep from your eyes. Once in the car, you drift in and out of sleep, until the car pulls through a secluded road and pulls in front of a gate. Your eyes flutter open, and you’re staring at the campus. You make sure you rubbed all the sleep from you eyes. But, kid- you’re not dreaming. This place isn’t the smallest place in the world.
You look at your feet as you pull your bags from the car, complaining that the other kids probably didn’t have their bags dragging around with them. Glances are thrown around you, a feeling of ever-growing trepidation and pure fright at the thought of being left alone here.
But, don’t worry. You’re not alone.
